On The Lookout! January 2014
Words and Photo by Jackie Teeple
Our first On the Lookout unsigned artist of 2014 is local Irvine boys Breach The Summit! They’ve been performing as a band for two years, reaching milestone after milestone as an independent band, most recently performing at The House of Blues Anaheim to a packed crowd, being honored at the OC Music Awards two years running, and being featured by Kat Corbett on KROQ’s Locals Only this weekend. With a unique sound that brings to mind fellow LA locals Youngblood Hawke, as well as Walk the Moon and Imagine Dragons; Breach The Summit might be unsigned, but their music is highly polished and has an ace up their sleeve that most people don’t expect—their drummer, Olen Kittelsen, is also their lead vocalist, delivering not only the beat, but powerful vocals at the same time.
Their live show is distinctive as well, with every member of the band contributing on percussion throughout while also playing their own instruments, with Sam Beresford on keys, Jacob Berger on guitar and newcomer Kody Buxton on bass rounding out the band, with Kittelsen occasionally breaking from his kit to perform on the ukelele. Their performance is surprising, energetic, and over-all fantastic, with the entire crowd on their feet, singing and clapping along.
Breach The Summit has amazing promise, and a big year ahead of them in 2014, and we’re proud to call them our On The Lookout band to kick it off! Photos from their show at the House of Blues Anaheim will be going up soon, along with some tracks from their latest EP The City, available for download free on Soundcloud! Like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter!
